I can connect to the internet ok. However, I am unable to pull down any websites or get my email? What could be the problem?

This can be a problem for many different reasons. There are several things that you want to check into to see if they help your problem.

Q: When you are not using your computer do you leave it turned on, or do you turn it completely off?

A: If you leave a computer on for an extended period of time, the computer's internet protocols can have a tendency to not do what they are supposed to do. The easy fix for this is just to completely Shut down the computer for at least 30 to 60 seconds. After that time is up, then turn it back on and let it re-boot from scratch.

Q: Are you running any kind of Firewall or Child Protection software?

A: Firewalls and Child Protection Software are normally very good investments for people who are concerned about Internet security. When these software packages are properly configured, they do excellent jobs of protecting your computer against unwanted information. However when these programs are misconfigured, or when the settings become corrupt, they are nasty for blocking legitimate information to be received or sent by your computer. You should try to disable the software in question and then try to connect to the internet again.

Q: Are you, or were you at one time, running any kind of Internet Speed Boosting software on your computer?

A: In most cases software advertised and designed to boost your browsing speed add Proxy Server settings to your Web Browser Configuration. In your browser's Internet Options window, check to make sure that there are no Proxy Server settings still in your configuration.

Q: Are you on a network running Internet Connection Sharing?

A: Internet Connection Sharing is a protocol in Windows that allows an Internet connection to be used by another computer that is hooked up on a LAN network. Just as with Firewalls, these settings normally work well when properly configured. However, when misconfigured or corrupted, the ICS protocol can prevent information from being sent to and received by your computer. You should disable the Internet Connection Sharing and then try your connection again.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

It should also be noted that using Internet Connection Sharing is a violation of the NuNet Terms of Service Contract. This is stated under the Account Billing portion of the TOS, Section 1, Paragraph 2. This states that "The account is for a single user or family and not to be shared among business associates or over a network with multiple users." To this effect NuNet Technical Support shall offer NO assistance in troubleshooting the Internet Connection Sharing configuration.
